Deer Valley Surgical and Endoscopy Surgery Center, a beautiful state-of-the-art free-standing ambulatory surgery center located in Phoenix, AZ is seeking experienced PreOp/PACU Registered Nurses.

The PreOp/PACU Registered Nurse, under minimal supervision, performs a variety of duties in the department as a member of the team. Major responsibilities include preparing patients for surgery and providing care for patients post operatively.

Pre-operative duties include but are not limited to

  • Manage patients’ admission processes to preoperative department
  • Assess the status of patients’ health in pre-op and ensure accuracy of patient identification
  • Ensure that operative and informed consents are accurate for the procedure scheduled
  • Complete admission assessment and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure
  • Initiate IVs and administer preoperative medications as ordered

Post-operative duties include but are not limited to

  • Assess patients’ condition after a surgery has been performed
  • Ensure that all vitals are within normal range
  • Develop individualized care plans based on each individual patient’s condition
  • Ensure that the all nursing activities are carried out in accordance to individual patient care plan
  • Monitor patients for condition changes and report any changes to the surgeon and/or anesthesiologist
  • Initiate patient education programs to ensure that both patients and families are educated on procedures and medications
  • Determine when patients are ready for discharge based on discharge criteria
  • Perform intervention duties in cases of post-operative emergencies

Requirements

  • Must be a Registered Nurse with an unrestricted license in the state of Arizona
  • Minimum 1-year previous experience in PreOP/PACU
  • Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center strongly preferred
  • Current BLS upon hire. ACLS and PALS with 30 days of hire.
  • Must possess a strong knowledge of surgical procedures and management of the surgical patient
  • Must be an excellent team player and have the ability to communicate with staff, patients and physicians
