The posted compensation range of $52.22 - $85.32 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. **Job Summary and Responsibilities**

As our Nurse Shift Manager, you'll oversee a department of frontline nurses caring for patients. Your previous experience in acute care, LTC, or nursing homes adds tremendous value to our nursing team.

Every day you will advocate for your fellow nurses as you support them in reaching their full potential, which aligns with your department's operational goals and objectives.

To be successful in this role, you need to be accountable and confident. You're an excellent communicator in 1:1 interactions and in front of groups. It's also important for you to be comfortable holding tough conversations, as you are responsible for the performance of your people and your unit.

• Supervises nursing staff assigned to a particular shift. Assigns patients to available nursing staff, taking into consideration the patient's condition and the employee's skill level.
• Assesses, monitors, and educates the nursing staff on patient care. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary.
• Anticipates staffing needs and moves proactively to respond to them.
• Oversees stocking of supplies and updating patient records to ensure that the nursing floor is ready for subsequent shifts.

**Job Requirements**

Required

• Associates Of Science Nursing (ASN) and Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as a registered nurse, upon hire
• Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing with CA board
• Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) from AHA
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) from AHA

Founded in 1910, Dignity Health - Mercy Hospital is a 229-bed, acute care, nonprofit hospital located in Bakersfield, California. Serving nearly 90,000 patients annually, the hospital offers a full complement of services including Level II NICU, cancer care, women’s health, and orthopedics. Additionally, Mercy Hospital Downtown & Mercy Hospital Southwest have been recognized as an LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality High Performer by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

They are both Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Centers. Mercy Hospital Downtown offers the only inpatient Oncology Unit in Bakersfield while Mercy Hospital Southwest has the only Obstetric Emergency Department in Bakersfield.

Uh, my name is Ricardo Arenas. I'm a registered nurse and I work here at the critical care unit. Ricardo, I've got something to show you, OK.

Hi, my name is Taylor and I was a patient of Ricardo. Come here, come say hi. Ricardo pops out because he was one of the first people that I remember once I woke up, so I was really disoriented.

I remember him though, and he was able to get me to laugh, and right off the bat I was like, oh, I feel like I was talking to a friend or someone that I knew. I could just feel like. His presence and his care.

It was a lasting impact I'd say. Ricardo, I just want you to know that your impact, um, Did you think I'd get emotional. was uh something I'll never forget. Thank you for being you.

Oh It feels awesome, to be honest, like seeing them, uh, from when they first roll in the ICU I almost see it like, like, like a mission. Like, I'm gonna do my best to um get back to at least as closest to 100%. And if we achieve that, it's like the best feeling in the world, like Taylor, like, he wasn't able to talk at the time before I knew it, um, he was no longer in the ICU.

So hearing him talk is like, you don't imagine how they sound, you just see them and then when you hear them talk, it's, it's amazing.
