*Duties*
Administer services within the applicable scope of nursing practice, which may include: catheterization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings/bandages, packs, colostomy, and drainage bags, taking blood, giving massages and range of motion exercises, care for the dead/dying, etc., as appropriate and in accordance with applicable standards.
Greet newly admitted residents upon admission and participate in the orientation of new residents/family members to the facility.
Arrange for diagnostic and therapeutic services, as ordered by the physician, and in accordance with established procedures.
Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
Ensure that an adequate supply of floor stock medications, supplies, and equipment is on hand to meet the nursing needs of the residents.
Receive and record orders, and document the prescribed treatments on the resident charts, and care plans as appropriate.
Chart nurses’ notes in a professional and appropriate manner that are timely, accurately and thoroughly reflect the care provided to the resident, as well as the resident’s response to the care.
Assist with other nursing functions assigned by the DON.
*Skills*
Strong understanding of patient care and medical terminology.
Experience with medication administration and understanding of physiology knowledge.
Proven ability to work effectively in an inpatient setting and provide compassionate care to patients of all ages, including pediatric patients.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals.
Ability to maintain accurate records and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Familiarity with medical terminology and the ability to document patient information accurately.
Ability to ventilate patients and manage airway devices.
Knowledge of workers' compensation law and experience working in a nursing home setting.
Other Specific Requirements
Must provide evidence of being free of tuberculosis infection upon hire and as set forth by the policies of the facility.
Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
Must possess the ability to make independent decision when circumstances warrant such action.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.

When you are unsure and everyone else is slammed, try this: if another nurse walked up and put that exact question to you, what would you tell them to do?
Someone on clinicals may say something that has you wondering if you are cut out for this. Do not take it to heart. A couple of bad days are not the profession.
Three or four years went by before the overwhelmed feeling lifted, and close to six before I felt expert at the bedside. Measure this in years, not months.
Expect the unexpected every shift and at every hour of it. The part you can learn is flexibility: managing a bit of chaos, and finding something in it to enjoy.

Housing undercuts central Denver—median homes around $409,700–$470,000, rents roughly $1,600–$1,760—but still runs about 25% above the national average. Crime is falling yet neighborhood-dependent. Stanley Marketplace, Annette, Helga’s, Bent Barley, and 400+ ethnic restaurants are the hangouts; Cherry Creek State Park and Aurora Reservoir are the backyard.
