Summary
Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with established Federal, State and accreditation standards and ASC policies and procedures. This position is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others who are under his/her direction. Participates in direct patient care and maintains a clean, orderly and safe environment.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Utilize a computer database to obtain and document information on surgical patients.
- Conduct a phone assessment of each surgical patient to obtain medical and medication history.
- Evaluate patients for allergies and reconcile with pre-operative eye drops.
- Communicate with Surgery Schedulers regarding patient needs and pre-surgical paperwork.
- Communicate with Primary Care Physicians, Cardiologists, Oncologists, etc. to obtain necessary information for appropriate medical evaluation pre-operatively.

- Communicates in an open and concise manner. Exhibits good verbal (one-to-one and one-to-group) communication skills. Identifies and resolves communication barriers (involving self/others). Writes effective business communications. Conducts effective meetings. Participates effectively in meetings. Communicates effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Plans and organizes own work. Recognizes when a system or process is not producing the desired results. Determines the cause of problems before taking action. Gathers relevant information when necessary. Systematically generates and evaluates alternatives and solutions before making a decision. Thinks in a logical, disciplined manner. Manages time efficiently. Manages multiple assignments simultaneously.

Education and/or experience
- Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required
- Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing preferred
- One year of previous nursing experience in at least one of the following settings is preferred: surgical, ambulatory surgical center (ASC), Pre/Post-Op, PACU, ICU, Medical Surgical, Telemetry or Operating Room
Licenses and credentials
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) License required in the state where the worksite is located
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Adult Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
Systems and technology
- Should have knowledge of Amkai Office and Amkai Charts Database software
- Knowledge of patient monitoring and emergency equipment
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Printer, copier, telephone and fax
Physical requirements
- This role requires a variety of physical activities to effectively perform essential job functions. The position involves frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%), with regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%). Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs. Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands are essential, as the role demands constant grasping, writing/typing, and use of technology. Visual and auditory acuity—including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus—is required 100% of the time. Occasional driving or climbing may also be necessary.
