Are you living your life's work? Essential Duties And Responsibilities Clinical Practice Provides age appropriate care for the population served. Gives consideration to growth & developmental phase of life, to age related factors such as thermal regulation, nutrition, medication administration, nutrition, safety and functional needs of the patient. Uses appropriate resources for patients with special needs such as language barriers, sensory problems, altered cognition, cultural and religious needs. Ensures attention to patient’s physical, spiritual and emotional well being. Demonstrates competency in assessment skills Performs pain assessments and intervenes to optimally meet patient’s needs for comfort. Plans clinical care based on patient’s needs and uses available resources. Performs clinical care in accordance with policy and procedure. Evaluates outcomes of nursing interventions and takes appropriate actions to move patient toward reaching goals of care. Identifies situations that warrant patient rescue and takes appropriate action, e.g. Rapid Response or Code Blue/Pink. Adheres to the 5 rights of medication administration per policy and procedure. Integrates principles of infection control & infection prevention into practice. Adheres to aseptic technique as appropriate. Uses resources and references for reviewing policies and procedures, medications, and clinical information. Prioritizes and organizes work effectively within assigned shift. Assesses the Ante partum patient, plans and initiates care and evaluates the effectiveness of interventions: Maintains patient safety through teaching patient about fetal movement, kick counts, reinforcing diet and medication instruction, self care, warning signs of complications of pregnancy. Coordinates plan of care for the fetal therapy patient. Demonstrates competency in assessment and re-assessment of the patient at each office visit. Completes the ACOG form on all prenatal patients at the initial visit and updates needs on subsequent visits. Assesses prenatal patients in absence of physician/nurse practitioner with vital signs, Doppler fetal heart tones and reports findings to attending physician. Triages patient telephone calls and documents in chart. Nursing Interventions Demonstrates the ability to make correct clinical decisions and prioritize nursing actions on OB/GYN patients. Manages staff, procedures and office flow in absence of Clinic Manager. Acts as a role model and mentor for staff and other personnel. Assists as a preceptor. Assists MD’s, residents and nurse practitioners with procedures including but not limited to colposcopies, pap smears, cultures, exams, endo biopsies, IUD insertion, etc. Assesses for altered domestic relations, depression, psycho-social needs. Refers to appropriate agency and Social Service. Teaches techniques needed for home care (wound dressing, B/P, injections, etc) and reviews plans for follow-up care. Manages abnormal follow up. Phones prescriptions to pharmacies. Coordinates surgery set up with OR, physician’s office, PAT. Performs teaching for surgical procedure. Documents prescribed treatments, therapies, interventions, etc. Documents teaching in the patient chart including kick count, birth control, medications, equipment, safety, etc. Obtains results for Soarian, CDC labs, Quest, Lab Corp, Interdoc, etc. Prepares and labels specimens for transport to appropriate lab. Enters data in Lab Log. Prepares patients for exams and assists with exam. Education Training And Experience Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program. Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required. Ability to speak, read, and write fluently in both English and Spanish. Must be able to communicate effectively with diverse candidate populations in both languages. Licensure/Certification Current Pennsylvania RN License. CPR certification required.
