About this role

Townsen Memorial Hospital Humble is looking for a FT Registered Nurse ER House Supervisor to join our team!

Summary

The Registered Nurse Emergency Room House Supervisor is responsible for receiving patients to the clinical area and providing nursing care to the emergency room patient, as well as, providing oversight of the facility as the house supervisor to lead the staff in the absence of the upper management staff. Additionally, providing direct patient care and developing nursing care plans specifically designed for individual patients.

Essential functions

Ensure the emergency room and patient care areas always have a clean and therapeutic environment for all patients Give instructions to patients as instructed by physician or physician assistant Ensure supplies and equipment needed are available and in good working order Admit the patient to the unit and prepares him/her for the admitting or emergent procedures Make initial assessment and determines the nursing needs of the patient, communicates additional discharge needs when applicable in conjunction with the emergency room physician Explain nursing procedures and actions taken to help reduce anxiety Identify patient’s physical and mental status Monitor the patient’s medical condition and reports any significant changes to the admitting physician or emergency room physician Assure any procedure or surgical consent, pre-operative test results and History and Physical are in the medical record prior to any proposed procedure as applicable Assist with transferring of patients out of the facility; knowledgeable of EMTALA rules and requirements Report any important health history facts to the emergency physician/medical director Educate patients and family, provide patients and family members emotional support as necessary Document patient care delivered, accurately in the medical record Implement doctor’s orders in a timely and accurate manner Develop and maintains an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors, physicians, and staff Document concisely, precisely, and accurately on all records or documents as indicated by policy Utilize and maintain clinical competencies (general, age specific and drug administration) Demonstrate clinical problem solving, critical thinking and makes decisions using evidence based analytical approach Plan for routine events and anticipates/prevents and manages/evaluates emergent situations Complete patient care responsibilities in a timely manner with accurate documentation Use downtime efficiently, aware of team members workload, responds positively to requests for assistance from other team members throughout the facility Act as resource; gives advice and instructions to employees; coaches staff on assigned tasks; facilitates problem/issue resolution Act as expert/super user for equipment, technical problems, and for advanced or difficult procedures Oversee day-to-day operation and collaborates with management to optimize team performance Adapt to unexpected changes, effectively acclimate to various work schedules to achieve high quality of care Protect patient and family privacy rights and maintains confidentiality of patient records in accordance with policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements Follow all safety rules, report all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards Communicate with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace Maintain established Facility/Departmental policies and procedures Adhere to the company standards of business conduct Perform other related duties as assigned to support the hospital

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word & Vision (EMR) Strong attention to detail: being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks Ability to maintain composure, keeping emotions in check, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior, even in difficult situations Ability to adequately plan and implement nursing interventions and evaluate patient condition Practice nursing within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act of Texas and accepts responsibility and accountability for own actions Excellent, professionally polished patient interaction and skills to practice collaborative nursing Ability to respond quickly, physically and mentally when priorities and /or the patient’s condition changes High stress tolerance: accepting criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations Ability to adapt with flexibility: being open to change (positive or negative) and to considerable variety in the workplace Ability to work independently, guiding oneself with little or no supervision, depending on oneself to get things done Ability to maintain records, effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow Ability to clean, maintain, and make minor adjustments to equipment

Associate’s Degree Five (5) years of experience in a supervisor capacity acute care environment Registered Nurse in the State of Texas Basic Life Support (BLS) certified Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified or must be obtained within sixty (60) days of hire Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified or must be obtained within sixty (60) days of hire
