Job Description

  • Teach undergraduate nursing courses in the classroom and clinical settings, acute or ambulatory, transitional care, skills lab, simulation, and/or community practicum settings. The incumbent would be expected to teach courses and clinical/practicum that would include but are not limited to acute and chronic care across the lifespan
  • Instruct courses in varied locations, at varied times, and via various media commensurate with department and university needs.
  • Engage in scholarly research or creative achievement to enhance knowledge of field.
  • Provide evidence of continuing preparation and study in the field to enhance teaching abilities.
  • Contribute to student growth and development including student advising.
  • Provide service to the university and community including the program, the department, the college, the university, and the greater community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate or actively enrolled in a doctoral program in nursing or related field. Candidates currently enrolled in a doctoral program must have the degree completed by final day of the fiscal year (June 30th) in which they are hired.
  • Evidence of degree completion by final day of the fiscal year in which they are hired (6/30/2027)
  • A graduate degree in nursing from a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission on Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited program or an international equivalent.
  • For international applicants all qualifications will need to be verified by a United States accrediting body e.g., Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS International, Inc.)
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse with current registration or eligible for licensure in MN and WI.
  • Must meet background study requirements according to Minnesota statutes.
  • A minimum of 3 years nursing experience in one or more care settings, e.g., inpatient, ambulatory, transitional care, and/or community settings.
  • Ability to meet Minnesota State and clinical partner agency requirements, including Health Care Provider CPR certification and up-to-date immunizations, including influenza
  • Ability to push, pull and lift 25 pounds; move up to 50 pounds of weight; use upper/lower body strength; or have a reasonable accommodation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching is required.

  • Experience teaching, coaching, and advising baccalaureate nursing students.
  • A breadth of nursing experiences with a range of patient populations.
  • Ability to collaborate with others to contribute to a culture of teamwork.
  • Passionate about the field of nursing; including teaching, care of others, and professionalism.
  • Flexibility to respond to a changing work environment by leading and innovating.
  • Simulation experience in varied form.
  • Nursing experience or expertise in one or more of the following areas:
  • Medical-surgical nursing experience
  • Community health/population health nursing experience
  • Experience within ambulatory/primary care/outpatient nursing care settings
  • Pediatric/adolescent/family care in nursing experience
  • Maternal/child/family health nursing experience
  • Mental health in nursing experience
  • Experience within nursing leadership

The Department of Undergraduate Nursing (DUN) faculty are an innovative, energizing group of nurses that are consistently looking for unique and pioneering methods of educating our future nurses. The DUN has a pre-licensure program and a baccalaureate completion program that offer a solid, broad-based nursing perspective, technology-enhanced, and society-focused curricula. DUN uses simulation that offers enhanced student preparation for the nursing profession.
