Unit Overview

St. David's South Austin Emergency Department is a high-volume, multidisciplinary emergency services department with a total of 48 private rooms, 27 hallway stretchers, 9 fast-track spaces, and 5 behavioral health rooms .

The department has approximately 111 staff members and provides care across emergency, cardiac, trauma, and behavioral health populations.

Staffing & Patient Ratios

Day & Night Shifts

Charge RN + 11 RNs

Additional mid-shift coverage at 9 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM, and 3 PM

2 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)

1 Paramedic

1 LVN

Patient Ratios

  • General ED: 1:4
  • Behavioral Health: 1:5
  • Cardiac/Trauma: 1:3

Equipment

Alaris IV pumps

Belmont rapid infusers

Level 1 rapid infusers

Stryker stretchers

Central monitoring equipment

Required Certifications

Candidates must have

ACLS

  • BLS
  • CPI
  • ENPC

TNCC

Nihss

Preferred Experience

Candidates with the following experience are preferred

MEDITECH experience

Trauma experience

Inpatient holding experience

CPI certification/experience

Typical Procedures & Skills

The ED team performs and assists with a wide range of emergency procedures, including:

Splinting

EKGs

Central monitoring

Trauma assistance

Central line procedures

Airway support

Behavioral health de-escalation

Morgan Lens procedures

Rapid infuser use

Resuscitation

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate should be

An excellent multitasker

A self-starter

Comfortable working in a fast-paced emergency environment

Able to prioritize and respond effectively to changing patient needs

Dress Code

RN Scrubs: Navy Blue

Unit Guidelines

Staff must follow all established St. David's South Austin Medical Center policies and procedures .
