Summary
The CT Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality CT (Computed Tomography) imaging procedures to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, patient-centered care, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Duties/
Responsibilities
- Perform CT examinations according to established protocols and physician orders.
- Operate and maintain CT imaging equipment, ensuring proper functioning and safety.
- Position patients correctly to obtain optimal images while ensuring comfort and safety.
- Evaluate images for technical quality and accuracy before submission to radiologists.
- Follow radiation safety standards to minimize exposure for patients and staff.
- Collaborate with radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare staff to coordinate efficient patient care.
- Obtain and verify patient medical history, screening information, and necessary consent forms.
- Start IV lines and administer contrast media per protocol, monitoring patients for adverse reactions.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including patient records, exam logs, and equipment maintenance reports.
- Assist in training and orienting new staff or students when needed.
- Adhere to all hospital, state, and federal regulations, including HIPAA and safety guidelines.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Strong understanding of CT imaging techniques and anatomy.
- Excellent patient care, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Comfort working in a high-volume or emergency environment.
- Ability to move/lift patients and equipment as needed.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology or CT program.
- ARRT (R) and/or ARRT (CT) certification required or eligible; must maintain active certification.
- Valid state radiologic technologist license (if applicable).
- BLS certification required (ACLS may be preferred).
- Prior CT experience preferred; new graduates considered depending on facility needs.
Physical Requirements
- Exposure to radiation, infectious diseases, and bodily fluids with proper protective measures in place.
- Prolonged periods of standing and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
