Living in Somers Point
Somers Point delivers the classic Jersey Shore lifestyle without the seasonal ghost-town feel or barrier island premium. Perched along Great Egg Harbor Bay directly across the causeway from Ocean City, this historic mainland enclave provides clinical staff at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center and nearby Atlantic County healthcare hubs a convenient, roughly fifteen-minute reverse commute along Route 9 or the Garden State Parkway. Off-shift hours center on the waterfront: you can grab fresh seafood along Bay Avenue at institutions like Smitty's Clam Bar and The Crab Trap, catch Friday evening concerts at William Morrow Beach, or jog the scenic pedestrian path across the Route 52 bridge into Ocean City. Residential options span quiet mid-century ranches on Shore Road, bayfront condos, and apartment complexes near the parkway corridor. Tradeoffs reflect its small footprint: public transit is minimal, making a personal vehicle non-negotiable for shifts and grocery runs, and local school ratings show mixed community reviews. For nurses seeking maritime charm, an established year-round community, and quick access to both Philadelphia and coastal beaches, Somers Point is a balanced home base.
