About this role
Under general supervision, plans, directs, and evaluates total nursing care and functions within the organization, in accordance with established philosophy.
Essential functions
Provides the best possible nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing the nursing functions of patients on the unit. Initiates and implements patient education and care plan. Ability to assess, critically think, rapidly recognize and respond to clinical changes.
Makes nursing assignments appropriate to the skill level of employees. Maintains acceptable standards of patient care. Identifies problems and guides personnel to their solution.

Creates a working climate that provides growth and job satisfaction of personnel. Accurately and promptly implements physicians' orders. Administers medications and intravenous solutions skillfully and correctly.
Maintains the standards of accurate and complete recording and reporting. Arranges to have needed supplies and equipment on hand. Participates in planning changes and improvements.
Participates in hospital safety and security programs. Supports and enforces infection-control policies and procedures. Is resourceful and calm in emergencies.
Keeps the Nursing Supervisor informed of patients, needs, and problems on the nursing unit. Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel. Evaluates the performance of personnel with recommendations for appropriate action.
Assists in reviewing and revising policies and procedures. Maintains a professional approach with confidentiality. Displays concern and initiative.
Displays original thinking and creativity. Meets challenges with resourcefulness. Generates suggestions for improving work.
Develops innovative approaches and ideas. Presents ideas and information in a manner that gets others' attention. Observes and supports hospital policy.
Is prompt and efficient with minimal absences. Cooperates and maintains good rapport with nursing staff, medical staff, other departments, and visitors. Conserves organizational resources.
Adapts to changes in the work environment. Manages competing demands. Able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
Provides Trauma-Informed Care. Identifies appropriate nursing diagnosis and documents within the plan of care. Collects referral information and presents to the psychiatric provider accordingly.
Promotes holistic care that guards against negative patient outcomes. Active member of the treatment team, to assist in the patient reaching their optimal level of functioning prior to discharge. Provides diverse care to connect with the individualized needs of each client, including families/caregiver.
Focuses on de-escalation techniques and therapeutic rapport.

Job requirements
Graduate of an accredited program in nursing. Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) preferred. Active State of Ohio Registered Nurse Nursing License. CPR - approved by the American Heart Association. Basic computer skills.
