Position Purpose

AtSaint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, the Pre-Surgical Screening RN plays a vital role in preparing patients for surgical readiness for the Main and Ambulatory Operating Room suites. This nurse primarily conducts comprehensive preoperative assessments via phone, coordinating with anesthesia and surgical teams to ensure patients are medically optimized for surgery. This role supports patient safety, reduces surgical delays, and enhances the overall surgical experience.

What You Will Do

  • Perform telephonic preoperative assessments, including medical history reviews, medication reconciliation, and risk screening.
  • Coordinate with anesthesia, surgeons, and primary care providers to ensure patients are cleared and optimized for surgery.
  • Educate patients on pre-surgical instructions and expectations.

Minimum

Qualifications

Required

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program with an Associate’s degree in Nursing is required.
  • Current Connecticut RN license.
  • The ideal candidate will have one or more years ofperioperative surgical screeningexperience.

Preferred

  • Training may be available for those with two or more years of recent acute nursing experience within Med/Surg or Critical Care nursing.
  • Ability to practice in alignment with AORN (Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses) recommended standards and guidelines.
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross). Certification support is available post-hire.
