What should I ask about a nursing orientation?

Ask how long orientation is and how much is classroom, who precepts you, how progress is reviewed, what happens if you need more time, and whether you repay anything if you leave.

The first-year nursing path

Orientation questions nurses ask.

Is nurse residency the same as orientation?

No. A residency can run a year with classes and meetings; orientation is your time learning the unit, often with a preceptor. Ask for each length: a 12-month residency does not mean 12 months of precepted shifts.

Can LPNs, LVNs and nurse practitioners use it?

Yes. Say RN, LPN/LVN or NP and add your unit and shift. Orientation review keeps your role in view, so an NP is asked about the collaborating physician and patient load, and an LPN about who supervises at night.

Can I add my employer?

Yes. Add the employer, campus or job link. Published orientation details come back with their sources, and anything that may not fit your role becomes a question to ask.
