One written offer on a unit I like, and a Friday deadline that showed up in a phone call but is nowhere in the letter.
My second interview is the Monday after. I asked for a few more days and got a very warm no.
Has anyone actually got a deadline moved? And if the answer stays no, is accepting and continuing to interview something people quietly do, or is that exactly how you lose a reference?

Ask for that date in writing. Not to be awkward, just because a deadline that only exists on a phone call has a way of becoming flexible once somebody has to type it.
The question I did not know to ask: what happens to the money if you accept and then resign inside the first year. Mine carried a repayment clause on relocation that I skimmed past, and leaving at fourteen months cost me most of a paycheck.

Sitting in the same week right now. What worked was telling the second place I had an offer with a date on it and asking whether they could reach a decision before it. They moved my interview up four days.
Everybody treats the deadline as fixed and the other interview as immovable. It was the other way round for me.

On the accept and keep looking question, since nobody wants to answer it. People do it. It also gets remembered, and in one city the managers all know each other.
If you would genuinely be happy at the Friday place, take it and stop. If you would not, the deadline is doing you a favour by making that obvious.
