NP fellowship at a lower salary, or straight into a direct-hire role?
Discussion starterThe question
A new grad NP laid this out on r/nursepractitioner in late September: a one-year fellowship with a stipend, four twelves a week, formal training and a mentor, against a direct offer paying far more with none of that.
If you took either path, what did the first year actually look like? Did the fellowship lead to a job at the same place? Did the direct hire come with anyone to ask?
Numbers welcome, rough is fine.
The conversation
2 repliesPut both offers through the same three questions and the choice usually gets clearer.
First, what happens at the end of the fellowship? Ask how many of the last cohort were offered a permanent role and at what pay, because a fellowship that feeds a job is a different deal from one that ends with a handshake. Second, in the direct-hire job, who signs off on your plans in the first ninety days, and how many patients a day will you see by month three? Third, put the hours side by side. A salary that looks bigger can shrink fast when the day has no end time written down.
If you're comparing two letters right now, our offer decoder lays both side by side, line by line, so the base, differentials and bonus terms are easy to compare.
What would you tell them?
Answer from what you have seen. It posts without your name.
