More about McLaren Northern Michigan
The ICU is a 24-bed medical and surgical unit where trauma, neuro and neurosurgery, cardiac interventional and cardiothoracic, vascular, and acute medical patients share the floor. If you are new to practice, the Nurse Residency Program follows the Vizient/AACN curriculum with three cohort starts a year timed to May, August, and December graduates. You get monthly seminars for a year, an evidence-based practice project, and coaching at the point of care; the clear tradeoff is a two-year employment commitment when residency ends. Experienced nurses can move on the MNM RN Clinical Ladder, with level-specific criteria reviewed annually. Nights in the ICU run 7:00pm to 7:30am on a bi-weekly 72-hour schedule. Permanent full-time ICU postings have listed sign-on bonuses up to $15,000 and relocation help up to $2,500. The hospital holds Magnet designation and earned Leapfrog Safety Grade A in May and November 2025, with hospital-wide staffing at 2.30 RN per bed. Petoskey draws people hard, and local housing costs have climbed sharply for anyone relocating on a nurse wage.
