It is also recognized as one of North Carolina's most comprehensive public health departments, offering services across Clinical, Case Management, Environmental Health, and Community Health Education divisions. The department operates Monday through Friday from 8:15 AM to 5:15 PM and provides free language interpretation services to clients, reflecting its commitment to serving a diverse population. The department is governed by a Board of Health appointed by the County Board of Commissioners, currently chaired by Dr. Sonya Chavis with Edwards Henderson as Co-Chairman. For nursing professionals, the department offers roles such as Public Health Nurse II, where nurses engage in community wellness promotion, disease prevention, health education, case management, and collaboration with local organizations. The department also participates in the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) Program, where Nurse Home Visitors conduct home visits to eligible women and their families, carrying a caseload of 25 to 30 clients.
