Details Acute care Med/Surg unit at a Trauma Level 3 facility with 38 beds Patient population includes adults and older teens with diagnoses such as pneumonia, UTI, dehydration, influenza, alcohol withdrawal, and respiratory virus Surgical caseload includes ortho (hips, knees, shoulders), general surgery (appendix, gallbladder, bowel), spinal surgery, and urology Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 for both days and nights, with RNs expected to accept up to a 1:6 ratio High turnover unit where discharges are typically followed by new admissions Nurse aide support available at a 1:8-1:10 ratio for accuchecks and vital signs Cardiac tech coverage 24/7; RNs are not required to read their own telemetry strips 24/7 nursing supervisor coverage with two charge nurses on day shift and one on night shift (charge nurses generally do not take patient assignments) Respiratory therapy support available 24/7 for trach, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen management RNs required to titrate drips including Heparin, and manage set-rate drips such as Bumex and Lasix Uses EPIC EMR for charting Mixed shift schedule of days and nights, 12-hour shifts May float to IMCU for Med/Surg assignments Weekend and holiday coverage required as needed Low-census call/standby requirement may apply No self-scheduling for travel RNs, though blocked scheduling may be accommodated at times Requirements Active RN license (NE or Compact) currently in hand Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC) CPI certification required Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg experience required EPIC documentation experience required Must be able to accept a 1:6 patient ratio Experience with bedside shift report required Should have experience working the specific shift type (days or nights) being applied for Additional Information Deliver Med/Surg nursing care with a focus on teamwork, including supporting CNAs and answering call lights Conduct bedside shift report and proactive patient rounding Navy blue scrubs required Unit-specific orientation consists of 1.5 shifts Must reside within a 45-mile radius of the facility First-time travelers are welcome to apply
