Baylor Scott & White Continuing Care Hospital (CCH) in Temple is seeking an experienced and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) Charge Nurse to lead our Skilled Nursing Unit on day shift. This role is ideal for a strong clinical RN who enjoys mentoring others, coordinating care, and making a direct impact on both patients and staff.

Baylor Scott & White Continuing Care Hospital – Temple is a 48‑bed, highly advanced medical facility offering private patient rooms and 24‑hour access to an on‑site physician team. Our modern, patient‑focused hospital provides acute care for patients requiring extended hospital stays, including recovery following serious illness or surgery. The hospital is also home to our Skilled Nursing Unit, delivering high‑quality, hands‑on nursing care in a collaborative environment.

Unit Details

Department: Skilled Nursing Unit, Wound Care and RT on site Unit Size: 23 beds, 45 staff members

Nurse‑to‑Patient Ratio: 5:1

Position Details

Job Title: RN Charge Status: Full‑Time

Schedule

Day Shift, (3) 12‑hour shifts per week, 6A-6P

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the Charge Nurse for the Skilled Nursing Unit, providing clinical leadership and operational oversight during assigned shifts

Coordinate patient care and patient flow while ensuring safe staffing and appropriate resource utilization

Support, mentor, and guide nursing staff, promoting teamwork and professional development

Collaborate closely with physicians, case management, therapy services, and other interdisciplinary team members

Ensure high‑quality, patient‑centered care and adherence to hospital policies, procedures, and standards

Monitor patient conditions, address clinical concerns, and escalate issues as needed

Foster a positive, respectful, and supportive unit culture

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program

Current Texas RN license

3 years of clinical experience required

Previous experience in Skilled Nursing, MS acute care, or long‑term acute care, strongly preferred

Prior charge nurse or leadership experience preferred

Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills

Commitment to teamwork, patient safety, and staff support

Job Summary

Registered Nurse Charge oversees patient care, follows nursing regulations, and fulfills the organization's priorities. This enhances responsibility to promote the mission. The main tasks involve evaluating patients, identifying nursing diagnoses, creating personalized care plans, and assessing patient responses.

Essential Functions of the Role

You will utilize nursing judgment and reasoning to make precise health assessments, ensuring these assessments align with standard practices.

You will check nursing procedures. Use research to make changes.

You will demonstrate caring practices by addressing both emotional and physical discomfort, aiming to foster healing and prevent excess distress.

Key Success Factors

Familiarity with nursing and patient care protocols and practices.

Proven communication skills both in speech and writing.

Exceptional problem-solving abilities coupled with smart critical thinking skills.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has completed an established program in Nursing.

At least (2) two years in the field.

Registered Nurse License.

You must have Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of being hired.
