As a PACU Registered Nurse (Per Diem) , you'll play a vital role in bringing that mission to life. Working closely with our PACU Charge Nurse in daily clinical operations, you'll help planning, directing, coordinating, and providing high quality, individualized patient care in the pre-operative period of the patient's surgical experience.

In this role, you will participate in direct patient care including maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment. You'll perform pre/post-operative teaching to patients and/ or their significant other along with managing patient complications, emergencies, preoperatively, as well as postoperatively. It's crucial that you maintain a professional demeanor for the patient and staff members, effectively communicate and set a positive patient experience for them and their families.

Additionally, you'll be expected to utilize appropriate services when needed to communicate with all staff members and patients with speech and hearing disorders to ensure the highest standards of patient experience and patient safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, age-appropriate pre- and post-operative nursing care, including assessment, teaching, implementation of the plan of care, and documentation.
  • Assess recovery from anesthesia and manage the airway, pain, nausea/vomiting, and other postoperative complications, reporting significant changes to medical staff.
  • Perform wound assessment and management, safe medication administration, and timely intervention for pre- and postoperative complications/emergencies.
  • Maintain aseptic technique and infection control practices, including establishing and managing intravenous access and monitoring vital signs, dressings, drains, and equipment.
  • Identify and appropriately care for patients with special needs (e.g., latex sensitivity, pain management), including communication with the team and adherence to established protocols.
  • Complete required assessments, pain documentation, and patient/family teaching, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, ensuring accurate recovery documentation.
  • Admit patients to pre-op, review labs, conduct pre-operative interviews, administer ordered pre-op medications, and implement the nursing plan of care in accordance with unit standards.
  • Support quality care and accountability by identifying and resolving problems, participating in performance improvement/quality activities, and adhering to medical record policies and procedures.

Compensation and Benefits

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $60.00 - $62.00 per hour ; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, licensure, skills, and experience.

Requirements

Education and/or

Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a PACU/Pre-Op RN.

Computer Skills

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • RN License
  • Current BLS Certification

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge and experience in PACU from hospital or ambulatory surgery center including direct patient care. Ability to adhere to work schedule and manage time appropriately. Ability to utilize resources in a timely, organized and cost effective manner.
  • Knowledge of patient monitoring equipment.
