Job Summary

The Registered Nurse-Orthopedics is responsible for delivering direct and indirect patient care for individuals with orthopedic and related conditions in an acute care hospital setting. The RN utilizes the nursing process and collaborates with an interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure high-quality, age-appropriate, and culturally sensitive care. The role emphasizes patient education, safe clinical practices, and positive outcomes through a structured care delivery approach.

Essential Functions

Conducts patient assessments, identifies expected outcomes, develops care plans, and evaluates results.

Administers medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and nursing standards.

Provides care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations with orthopedic diagnoses including joint replacements, fractures, and spinal conditions.

Coordinates with physicians, therapists, and support staff to deliver comprehensive care.

Participates in discharge planning, patient and family education, and care transitions.

Documents care in the medical record accurately and in a timely manner.

Recognizes and responds to changes in patient condition and potential complications.

Assists with procedures and maintains a sterile and safe environment for patient care.

Complies with infection control and patient safety protocols.

Provides mentorship and training to new staff and students.

Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication.

Knowledge of orthopedic procedures, post-operative care, and rehabilitation principles.

Ability to work collaboratively in an interprofessional team environment.

Comfortable using electronic health records (EHR) and medical technologies.

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Commitment to ongoing professional development and quality improvement initiatives.

Must be physically capable of assisting patients with mobility, transfers, and activities of daily living.

Qualifications

Education

Postsecondary (Cert/Diploma/Program Grad) from an accredited school of nursing (Required) And

Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or related field (Preferred)

Licenses/Certifications

RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure Upon Hire Upon Hire
