Summary

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina. The Registered Nurse role provides patient/family-centered care using the nursing process and focusing on the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, religious, and environmental needs. Job Description: Provides comprehensive nursing care using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation) to deliver age- and developmentally appropriate, patient- and familycentered care.

Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to address patients' physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and environmental needs. Ensures safe and therapeutic care by maintaining patient privacy and demonstrating professionalism, respect, and accountability. Participates in shared governance, peer review, and continuous professional development to promote clinical excellence and leadership.

Applies care management principles to coordinate efficient, outcome-focused care, identify clinical priorities, and improve patient outcomes within MUSC’s standards and policies. Minimum Education and

Experience

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Some positions require a valid driver's license. . Requirements

Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, and working in confined spaces or elevated areas. Must be able to bend, twist, squat, kneel (infrequently), and reach in all directions, including overhead. Requires fine and gross motor skills, including pinching, grasping, manipulation, and repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders.

Ability to maintain balance and coordination using both lower extremities. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted (infrequently), including lifting/lowering from floor to overhead. Requires exerting up to 50 lbs. of force (e.g., assisting patients, pushing wheelchairs/stretchers).

Must tolerate working indoors and occasionally outdoors in temperature extremes. Visual requirements include 20/40 corrected vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and color discrimination. Must maintain hearing acuity (with correction) and tactile sensory function.

Ability to handle stressful situations, work rotating shifts and overtime, and function in a latex-safe environment.

Additional Job Description

Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date. Refer to policy A141 for more details. A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required. Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required
