A $3,000 hiring bonus is being offered for this position. Hiring bonuses shall only be for new hires of original full-time employment or re-employment as defined in Human Resources Policy No. 5.0.

$500 will be awarded in the first paycheck. $1,000 will be awarded upon completion of the six (6) month interim performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”. $1,500 will be awarded upon completion of the employee’s one (1) year probationary period and a performance evaluation with an overall rating of “Meets Expectations”.

The City of Virginia Beach Department of Human Services is seeking to hire a Licensed Practical Nurse with experience with adults with mental health, substance use or co-occurring disorders in an outpatient or inpatient behavioral health setting for the Adult Outpatient Services program.

Provide nursing services to a caseload comprised of adults with mental health, substance use or co-occurring disorders who are receiving medication management in an outpatient setting to include ongoing assessments, crisis intervention, medication education and management. Designated as clinic site Medication Room Nurse, responsible for following the guidelines necessary to maintain the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy Controlled Substance Registration and ensure compliance with Medication Room policies. Provide preparation for prescriber visits, including administration of injectable medications and vital signs.

Complete nursing procedures (e.g., venipuncture, urine drug screens, and breathalyzer) as directed by the prescriber. Document client interactions at scheduled appointments in the electronic health record (EHR), and document follow up with pharmacies, clients, and providers between appointments to ensure continuity of care. Process prescription prior authorizations, coordinate with patient assistance program staff, and ensure stored medications are available as needed.

Manage clinical records, enter progress notes, and ensure all client interactions are accurately documented. Collaborate with clinic nursing team to manage client requests and walk ins outside of scheduled appointments.

Two (2) or more years nursing experience working with adults in a behavioral health setting. One (1) or more years’ experience administering medications to adults with severe mental illnesses and or substance use disorders. One (1) or more years’ experience documenting nursing services in an electronic health record.

One (1) or more years’ experience performing nursing procedures (e.g., venipuncture, blood pressure, injection administration). Experience as a medication room nurse responsible for maintaining compliance with regulatory boards. Experience working with physicians and pharmacies to manage prescription prior authorizations.

Proficient experience with MS Office products (Teams, Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.)
