About this role

Brief Description

Job Objective

Under the direction of the Trauma Program Manager, the Trauma Clinical Coordinator assists in overseeing the daily operations of the Trauma Center to include coordinating the care of the trauma patients, assuring optimal care throughout the continuum, from injury prevention through hospitalization, communicating the plan of care with patients and families, and facilitating discharge.

Responsibilities

  • Trauma Center Administration
  • Identifies quality improvement issues in the clinical setting
  • Coordinates trauma care management within the multidisciplinary team
  • Collaborates with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager in carrying out the clinical and educational activities of the trauma program
  • Serves as a liaison between the trauma patient and the multidisciplinary team
  • Identifies and collects data related to Trauma Services and assists in validating data assessing trends and sentinel events
  • Oversees the alcohol screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment program
  • Regulatory Duties
  • Collects data required for clinical reports for the Medical Center, County, Emergency Medical Services and the State
  • Facilitates maintenance of licensure and accreditation standards among the multidisciplinary team for Trauma Center Verification
  • Facilitates compliance with regulatory agency standards, i.e. Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA
  • Education
  • Continuously stays abreast of the most contemporary standards in trauma care science
  • Applies recent trauma Care science and systems innovations to the evaluation and improvement of AVMC Trauma Program
  • Works with all clinical educators and Nursing Education division on continuing education for trauma staff across the continuum to ensure proficiency and competence
  • Provides education and support for patient and families by giving them written educational materials and facilitating family conferences with members of the Trauma Team
  • Designs, coordinates, and implements community outreach injury prevention and educational activities based on the population of trauma patients served and the needs of the community

Key Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled environment subject to long periods of standing and walking
  • Regular exposure to biological products including blood, urine and fixed tissue samples
  • Regularly required to bend, stoop, reach, sit, lift, and carry up to 20 pounds.

Experience

Education

  • High School Diploma is required
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Health field with emphasis on emergency and/or critical care is strongly preferred

Experience

  • Three years professional nursing experience in an inpatient care with a background in trauma care is required.
  • Two years professional nursing experience in an inpatient critical care and/or emergency nursing area with a background in trauma care is preferred.

Required Licensure and/or

Certifications

  • Valid and current Registered Nurses license issued by the State of California is required
  • Valid and current Basic Life Support Provider is required
  • Valid and current Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required
  • Valid and current Pediatric Advanced Life Support provider certification is required
  • Certification through Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within one year of hire
  • Possession of a Certified Emergency Nursing (CEN) certificate is preferred
  • Possession of an Emergency Nurses Pediatric Course Certification is preferred
  • Possession of a Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support certification is preferred
