The licensed practical nurse provides direct care duties under the delegation of a registered nurse or nurse manager. The licensed practical nurse monitors the nursing care provided by professional and ancillary nursing personnel. The licensed practical nurse assists the registered nurse with data collection in collaboration with the resident, family and /or significant others and the interdisciplinary health care team to meet the care, educational and discharge needs.

Adheres to Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice and Nurse Practice Act. Qualifications Graduate of a school of practical nursing or passed LPN Boards after a defined period in a professional nursing program (e.g., some states allow RN students to take the LPN board exam after completing one to two years in the RN program). If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of LPN experience working in an applicable setting is required.

One year of work experience in Long Term Care or Home Health or two years of acute care nursing is preferred. Must be able to work in collaboration with others. Requires good communication and human relation skills to interact with Health Service and Charter House staff.

Strong problem solving skills are necessary with the ability to collect, compare, sort and prioritize information to be used in the decision-making process for groups of resident and employees. Must be able to adapt to unpredictable situations and stress. Works flexible hours which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays and weekends.

MN Licensed Practical Nurse license and, Basic Cardiac Life Support for Health Care Providers Certification (must come from one of the following providers: American Heart Association, Red Cross, or Military Training Network). Positions that are not on campus may not require current Basic Life Support (BLS) competency as determined by the work area.
