Purpose

As a Professional Staff Nurse, you will play a vital role in delivering compassionate, high-quality patient care as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team. Using clinical expertise, critical thinking, and evidence-based practice, you will coordinate and provide care for patients and their families while fostering meaningful partnerships with physicians, providers, and support staff. This role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact on patient outcomes by addressing the whole person, including their physical, social, emotional, and educational needs throughout the continuum of care.

Responsibilities

Deliver comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care that promotes quality outcomes, patient safety, and satisfaction. Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care and develop individualized plans of care. Identify and address clinical, social, psychological, safety, and spiritual factors that may impact patient health and well-being. Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, medications, and self-care needs through in-person, telephone, and written communication.

Maintain accurate and comprehensive clinical documentation that supports continuity of care and effective communication among providers. Serve as a patient advocate by helping individuals navigate healthcare needs, barriers to care, and available resources. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and utilize evidence-based practice to enhance patient care, safety, and outcomes.

Actively engage in shared governance, process improvement initiatives, and departmental goals aimed at advancing professional nursing practice. Build and maintain positive working relationships with patients, families, providers, and team members to create a compassionate and respectful care environment.

Demonstrate accountability for professional development, lifelong learning, and maintaining clinical excellence. Promote a culture of safety by identifying risks, communicating concerns, and supporting a healthy and productive workplace. Minimum six months experience preferred.

They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.

Interest in public and community health is a plus. Experience working with populations with multiple social needs is beneficial. Experience with EPIC preferred.

Graduate nurses must complete licensure examination within SIX MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void), UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 6 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU.
