The Clinical Coordinator facilitates patient flow, coordinates activities and communication for the clinical area nursing unit during his/her assigned shift. This person serves as a resource and leader for patients, staff, health care providers, administration and other disciplines. The Clinical Coordinator ensures that patient care is delivered to all patients in an efficient, caring and courteous manner.
Call for help the minute your patient looks off to you, not once you are sure. Needing help is not a mark against you. It puts more eyes on the patient, sooner.

When you are unsure and everyone else is slammed, try this: if another nurse walked up and put that exact question to you, what would you tell them to do?
Someone on clinicals may say something that has you wondering if you are cut out for this. Do not take it to heart. A couple of bad days are not the profession.
Three or four years went by before the overwhelmed feeling lifted, and close to six before I felt expert at the bedside. Measure this in years, not months.
Expect the unexpected every shift and at every hour of it. The part you can learn is flexibility: managing a bit of chaos, and finding something in it to enjoy.

Living in Richmond
Richmond is a river city: the James cuts downtown with class III–IV rapids, Belle Isle, Pony Pasture, and the 52-mile Capital Trail, so outdoors is not a weekend drive. Neighborhoods flip in 10–15 minutes—Fan row houses and Carytown coffee, Church Hill skyline views and a short hop to VCU Health, Scott's Addition breweries, or quieter Bellevue, Westover Hills, Carillon, and suburbs like Glen Allen, Midlothian, and Short Pump. VCU Medical Center is the largest employer (~13,500); commute by corridor (I-95 north, Broad Street's GRTC Pulse, Powhite/Boulevard Bridge, Lee Bridge) and test a Tuesday morning, because the I-95/I-64 weave and river spans beat mileage. Food and beer punch above weight—The Roosevelt, ZZQ, Perly's, Stella's, Dot's Back Inn, The Veil—plus ~150 murals, VMFA, First Fridays, and the Folk Festival. Renovated homes in good neighborhoods still come in under $400K; Bellevue and Westover Hills sit cheaper. Tradeoffs: you will likely need a car, crime varies by block, summers are hot and humid, and pollen is relentless. Hospitality is real. Pick the Tuesday lifestyle, then the house.
