Registered Nurse – Adult Care Unit (ACU) / Medical-Surgical Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility – Navajo Area Indian Health Service, Chinle, AZ | Full-Time | 12-Hour Shifts Position Overview We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses to provide direct inpatient care in the Adult Care Unit (ACU) at Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility, a 60-bed hospital serving the Navajo Nation in Apache County, Arizona. This is a full-scope Medical-Surgical inpatient assignment supporting a patient population with unique cultural and geographic care needs. Nurses will work 12-hour rotating shifts (days/nights), covering weekends and holidays as scheduled by the unit’s Supervisory Nurse, with an initial assignment period of three months and the opportunity for contract extension through additional option periods. Key Responsibilities • Provide full-scope adult medical-surgical nursing care to inpatients admitted to the Adult Care Unit. • Apply the nursing process to deliver individualized, goal-oriented care, incorporating the physical, cultural, and social needs of American Indian and Alaska Native patients. • Administer medications, IV therapy, and point-of-care testing; recognize and respond to complications and initiate appropriate interventions. • Perform clinical procedures including IV access, phlebotomy, EKG, and SVN respiratory treatments; respond to emergency codes. • Coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team; may serve as team lead, making patient assignments based on acuity and overseeing narcotic inventory and documentation compliance. • Document all care in the facility’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) system in accordance with facility policy. • Support inter-facility patient transports as directed by the Supervisory Nurse. • Comply with Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, and IHS standards, including peer review and unit-specific quality/safety reporting. Qualifications & Experience • Degree or diploma from an accredited professional nursing program. • Minimum of 36 months of nursing experience, including at least 24 months in Medical-Surgical/adult inpatient nursing. • Current, valid, unrestricted RN license (any U. S. state, D. C., Puerto Rico, or U. S. territory). • Current BLS and ACLS certification (American Heart Association); unit-specific competencies required upon orientation. • Ability to meet all facility health/immunization requirements (Hepatitis A & B, MMR, Varicella, Tdap, annual TB screening, annual influenza vaccination). • Strong English communication skills and demonstrated cultural awareness and respect for American Indian/Alaska Native patients and communities. Compensation $67–$77/hour, depending on experience and certifications. This is an all-inclusive hourly bill rate covering regular and overtime hours; there is no separate per diem or housing allowance under this contract, and government-provided housing is not available at this location. A one-time relocation/travel stipend is provided for initial assignment.
