Pediatric Hospice RN

*Service Area*: Las Vegas, Nevada

*Position Summary*

The Pediatric Hospice RN is responsible for providing compassionate, family-centered nursing care to pediatric patients with life-limiting illnesses. The role focuses on pain and symptom management, comfort care, and enhancing quality of life while supporting patients and their families throughout the hospice journey. The nurse performs comprehensive pediatric assessments, develops individualized plans of care, collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, and provides education, emotional support, and clinical guidance to caregivers in home and community settings.

*Key Responsibilities *

*Clinical Care*

• Perform comprehensive pediatric hospice nursing assessments, including admissions, recertifications, transfers, and discharges.
• Develop, implement, and update individualized pediatric hospice plans of care in collaboration with the physician and interdisciplinary team.
• Provide skilled pediatric nursing care, including pain and symptom management, medication administration, wound care, enteral feeding management, tracheostomy and ventilator care (when applicable), and other physician-ordered treatments.
• Deliver compassionate end-of-life care while promoting comfort, dignity, and quality of life for pediatric patients.
• Monitor, document, and promptly report changes in the patient's condition to the physician and interdisciplinary team.

*Family & Caregiver Support *

• Educate parents, family members, and caregivers on disease progression, symptom management, medication administration, medical equipment, home safety, and end-of-life care.
• Provide emotional support, anticipatory grief counseling, and bereavement guidance to patients, siblings, parents, and caregivers.

*Collaboration & Coordination *

• Coordinate care with physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, chaplains, child life specialists, therapists, and other members of the hospice team.
• Participate in interdisciplinary group (IDG) meetings, case conferences, and continuing education programs.
• Supervise and evaluate Home Health Aides every 14 days in accordance with hospice regulations.

*Documentation & Compliance*

• Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation, visit notes, and compliance with Medicare and agency standards.
• Maintain current knowledge of pediatric hospice, palliative care best practices, and applicable regulatory requirements.

*Qualifications *

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Nevada.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Minimum of 2 years of RN clinical experience required.
• Previous experience in pediatric hospice, palliative pediatrics, pediatric home health, or private duty nursing is strongly preferred.
• Experience caring for medically complex pediatric patients is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of pediatric pain and symptom management, hospice philosophy, and family-centered care.
• Familiarity with Medicare hospice regulations and clinical documentation standards.
• Excellent assessment, communication, critical thinking, and time-management skills.
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel throughout the assigned service area.
• Current CPR certification.
• Must successfully pass a background screening and must not be excluded from participation in Medicare or Medicaid programs.

*Physical Requirements *

• Ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop, and assist with repositioning or transferring pediatric patients as needed.
• Ability to safely access patient homes that may not be wheelchair accessible.
• Ability to perform hands-on nursing care and transport necessary clinical equipment during home visits.
