Portland costs about 5% above the national average, but the trade-off is tangible: post-shift food cart pods on Alberta, Saturday mornings at Powell's City of Books, and an aerial tram that glides you to OHSU above the Willamette. This is where nurses trade strip malls for rain-forest trails.

Worth asking

The posting doesn’t answer these. Good ones to ask a recruiter or in the interview.

  • How does compensation work, including base pay and the productivity or RVU formula?
  • Are there differentials or other recurring incentives?
  • What should I expect for shifts, weekly hours, weekend, holiday, call, and rotation?
  • What orientation, preceptor time, ongoing unit support, and clinical backup are included?
