Charge Nurse Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate nursing care on the assigned unit and shift.
- Provide compassionate, resident-centered nursing care.
- Perform resident assessments and monitor for changes in condition.
- Administer medications, treatments, IV therapies, and other nursing services as ordered.
- Notify physicians and appropriate members of the interdisciplinary team of significant changes in resident condition.
- Communicate professionally with residents and their families regarding care and changes in condition.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Supervise, mentor, and support CNAs and other nursing staff.
- Provide direction and assistance to nursing staff throughout the shift.
- Collaborate with physicians, therapy, dietary, social services, and other departments to promote positive resident outcomes.
- Participate in admissions, transfers, discharges, and care planning as appropriate.
- Ensure physician orders and individualized plans of care are properly implemented.
- Promote resident safety, dignity, comfort, and quality of life.
- Follow infection prevention and control practices.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA requirements, facility policies, and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and changes in resident condition.
- Promote teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and excellent customer service throughout the facility.
Qualifications
- Current *Alabama RN or LPN license* in good standing.
- Current BLS/CPR certification as required.
- Strong nursing assessment and clinical skills.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
- Ability to supervise and support nursing staff effectively.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR).
- Long-term care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, assisted living, or similar healthcare experience preferred.
- Charge Nurse or supervisory experience is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Must demonstrate compassion, dependability, professionalism, and a commitment to resident-centered care.
