Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and medical history documentation using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, and treatments following established protocols and physician orders.
  • Monitor patients for signs of acute pain, infection, or deterioration, providing timely interventions and triage as needed.
  • Assist with diagnostic evaluations such as specimen collection, processing, and basic medical imaging procedures.
  • Maintain accurate medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations and correctional facility policies.
  • Support discharge planning and coordinate follow-up care or referrals to specialists such as geriatrics, dementia care, or hospice services.
  • Ensure infection control practices are strictly followed to prevent the spread of infectious diseases within the facility.

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology relevant to correctional healthcare.
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations including geriatric patients, individuals with developmental disabilities, Alzheimer's disease, memory care needs, or behavioral health challenges.
  • Proficiency in EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth for documentation and patient management.
  • Skilled in patient assessment techniques including vital signs monitoring and physical examinations.
  • Ability to perform advanced nursing procedures such as catheterization, suturing, tube feeding management, and sterile technique.
  • Familiarity with long-term care regulations and skilled nursing facility standards applicable within correctional health settings.
  • Excellent caregiver communication skills for effectively interacting with patients who may have complex medical needs or cognitive impairments.
