About this role

The Clinical Nurse has the responsibility, accountability, and the authority to deliver safe, effective, quality, excellent nursing care according to the philosophy and goals/objectives of the Department of Nursing. The RN, utilizing the Jean Watson’s Theory of Caring, the Relationship Based Care, and the NorthBay’s professional nursing practice model assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care for all patients assigned to his/her care. The RN makes determinations regarding the progress of the patient toward goals and utilizes a therapeutic professional relationship with the patient/family and interdisciplinary team to facilitate the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of health.

Care is provided according to the specific physiologic, developmental and psychosocial needs of the patient. Supports the mission, vision, values and expectation of excellence of the organization.

In addition, the Wound/Ostomy nurse is a registered professional nurse with advanced education, knowledge, and expertise in clinical practice in this area of specialty. Functions as a resource to staff, management, and other health team members regarding nursing practice for specific patients and/or client populations requiring skin care including but not limited to preventive measures for wound and ostomy. Provides and directs nursing care that promotes and improves the well-being of the patient consistent with his/her clinical education and in accordance with the rules adopted by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

The major role functions of the Wound/Ostomy role are: (1) clinical practice/consultation, (2) education/staff development, (3) patient education/evaluation, (4) direct patient care.

Education

Graduate from an accredited school of professional registered nursing. BSN required by January 1, 2020, unless grandfathered as outlined in March 2014 letter. Master’s Degree preferred.

Certification

Certification in Wound/Ostomy from approved WOCNCB; certification required within 12 months of hire.

Licensure

Valid and current RN license by the State of California. Current AHA or AHA equivalent BLS. ACLS preferred.

Experience

Prior working experience in the particular area of specialty is required. Prior experience demonstrating the ability to work with a minimum of supervision and effective interpersonal nursing leadership skills.

Communication: Proficient, written, verbal and electronic communication skills.

Physical Effort: Performs all physical duties of the job. Requires lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, twisting, reaching, and fine motor skills.

Other: Completion of annual organizational requirements for employment.
