Responsibilities

  • Assuring resident safety.
  • Daily nursing operations of an assigned hall or unit.
  • Perform nursing services for the comfort and well-being of the residents and in accordance with physician's orders.
  • Assess assigned residents daily to determine status.
  • Prepare equipment and assist physicians during rounds, as needed.
  • Administer prescribed medications in the manner in which they are ordered.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of medications and controlled substances.
  • Observe residents' reactions to medications and treatment.
  • Assess, record and report changes in residents' condition to supervisor and attending physician.
  • Maintain residents' medical records by way of documentation, as required by applicable laws and organization standards.
  • Assist in supervising and instructing CNAs, including assignment of daily work involving residents.
  • Utilize available policies and procedures.
  • Utilize proper infection control techniques.
  • Assist with quality assurance functions as needed and requested.
  • Report accurately to oncoming shift charge nurse regarding change in resident status and anything that needs follow-up.
  • Provide input for CNA performance evaluations.
  • Advise, counsel, and discipline CNAs as needed.
  • Recommend staffing, equipment and supply needs to DON or designee.
  • Complete treatment orders following proper infection control practices, as needed.
  • Assist and complete skin audits as determined by supervisor as needed.
  • Be responsible for the safety of residents and employees under your supervision.
  • Identify safety hazards and initiate corrective actions. Identify special nursing problems and emergency situations quickly and initiate immediate action.
  • Communicate problems and needs with the DON or designee.
  • Provide emergency care to residents when necessary.
  • Perform basic nursing skills including but not limited to: orientation, in-service and nursing assistant education.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team and rehabilitation meetings as required.
  • Assess resident needs and provide input for the individualized resident care plan. Review and update care plans as necessary and assigned.
  • These duties and responsibilities are not a comprehensive list and additional task may be assigned from time to time. The scope of this position may change as necessitated by business demands.'
