Assignment Overview Shift: Variable, 3x12hrs Hours: 36 hrs/wk Start Date: Jun 1, 2026 Length: 13 weeks Openings: 1 Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 2 Trauma Emergency Department position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and an active SD or Compact RN license. Details Work in a high-volume Emergency Department serving 150–180 patients daily in a hospital setting Main ED consists of 33 beds, including 8 Trauma/Resuscitation beds, 4 Behavioral Health rooms, and a vertical care area used for ESI 3 and ESI 4 patients Patient population spans neonates to geriatric, with conditions ranging from minor to critical, including sepsis, DKA, respiratory illness, GI bleeds, stroke, and cardiac cases Heavy trauma population — Level 2 Trauma Center with high volume of stab wounds, GSWs, MVCs, drownings, and falls, especially during summer months Certified Complete Stroke Center capable of accepting stroke patients up to 24 hours from symptom onset Cares for critically ill pediatric patients and supports a cardiac catheterization lab RN patient ratio: 1:4–5 12-hour variable shifts; possible shift times include 0630–1900, 1000–2230, 1200–0030, 1400–0200, and 1830–0700 Travelers will not be scheduled for both day and night shifts within the same week Travelers may be scheduled to work every weekend depending on staffing needs No on-call requirements Uses Epic EMR, Omnicell, and Alaris equipment Epic experience is preferred; please disclose if you do not have Epic experience Requirements Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) Board of Nursing or Compact license required Graduation from a board of nursing-approved nursing education program Minimum 2 years of ED experience (excluding travel experience) strongly preferred; candidates with 1.5 years of ED experience (excluding travel) plus 2 or more years of experience outside of ED may be considered with manager approval Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, and PALS CPI or MAB/MOAB certification preferred Proficiency in ESI triage assessments Experience caring for the full range of patient types seen in this ED, including trauma, stroke, and pediatric critical care Strong critical thinking, prioritization, and communication skills Must reside more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible for this position Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration DOB and SSN required for consideration Additional Information Travelers are expected to participate in sexual assault evidence collection in rotation with permanent staff — this includes buccal swabs, fingernail scrapings, clothing collection, and victim interviews (no pelvic exams); a resource booklet and a 24/7 Sexual Assault Quality Coordinator are available to support this process May be asked to precept nursing students May float to inpatient Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU areas in a task nurse capacity only — no independent assignment Orientation includes 8 hours of facility NEO and 4 hours of ED-specific education, plus a minimum of two 12-hour shifts on the unit 24/7 support includes charge nurses, ED technicians, phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, physician coverage, hospitalist, NP coverage, radiology/CT, pharmacy tech, and security Holiday coverage required only as needed Time off requests require manager approval; no RTO will be approved during the first three weeks of August due to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Former permanent staff must wait one full year before returning as a traveler First-time travelers will not be considered for this position Required scrub color: Navy Free parking available on-site
