Who We Are
Marklund is a nonprofit organization that provides residential, educational and therapy services to infants, children, teens and adults with serious and profound developmental disabilities and special healthcare needs. With two residential locations - the Marklund Hyde Center in Geneva and the Marklund Wasmond Center in Elgin, it is currently home to nearly 178 residents. The Marklund Day School offers Multi-Needs and Life Skills programs for children and young adults with multiple medical needs, and those diagnosed on the autism spectrum.
In addition, our Community Day Services program at each site is a therapeutic day program for adults who reside at Marklund and those who come in from the community.
According to one of our nurses, Cass, Marklund stands about from other facilities:
“The reason I became a nurse was to help, nurture, and show love to other fellow beings who were in need, and I am able to live that dream at Marklund.
What sets Marklund apart for me is the homelike setting as well as the client-staff ratio. I feel as though I'm providing care for someone in their home which inspires me to keep care more personal. It's a very warm and inviting atmosphere, which makes me feel as if I'm going to my home away from home. Also because of the working ratios the quality of care provided is much higher, which is something you can feel proud of.
If you want to enrich the lives of others by something as small as a smile or gentle touch, Marklund is the place for you. If you like going home feeling that you received as much or more than you gave, Marklund is the place for you. If you like knowing you may be the one constant in someone's life, Marklund is the place for you.”
Through clinical excellence, caring practice and extraordinary teamwork, Marklund nurses boldly advance the practice of nursing every day. You will make a difference in the lives of our residents in the following ways:
Administer medications, tube feedings and treatments as prescribed.
Prepare quarterly health assessments and annual assessments.
Inform the physician of changes in resident health status and implements physicians order to assure optimal health care.
Complete daily charting for care provided.
Act as a liaison between residents, parents, physicians, consultants and case manager regarding resident status.

Geneva is a charming Fox River town about 45 miles west of Chicago, known for its historic downtown filled with boutiques and eateries. Tree-lined streets and riverside parks give this suburb a quintessential Midwestern feel, while still offering reasonable access to the city for nurses who want quieter living with occasional urban escapes.

About the employer
The only pay figure we have comes from one posting: $34.25 an hour, with the minimum, median, and maximum all at that same number. Geneva sits in the Fox Valley west of Chicago. It is widely described as a suburb…
Worth asking
The posting doesn’t answer these. Good ones to ask a recruiter or in the interview.
- Can you walk me through base pay range and differentials?
- What should I expect for weekly hours, holiday, and rotation?
- What orientation, preceptor time, and ongoing unit support are included?
- How are patient load, floating, and staffing support handled day to day?
