Responsibilities
A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in a nursing home is responsible for providing and overseeing resident care, ensuring safety, promoting health, and coordinating with healthcare professionals.

Key responsibilities include
Assess residents' health conditions and needs.
Develop, implement, and update care plans.
Monitor vital signs and health status.
Provide treatments and nursing interventions.
Administer medications safely and accurately.
Monitor residents for medication side effects and effectiveness.
Maintain medication records and ensure compliance with physician orders.
Supervise Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs).
Delegate nursing tasks appropriately.
Provide guidance and training to nursing staff.
Communicate with physicians regarding resident conditions and treatment plans.
Educate residents and families about health conditions and care.
Maintain accurate and timely medical records.
Document assessments, treatments, medications, and changes in condition.
Ensure compliance with facility policies and regulatory requirements.
Provide first aid and emergency nursing care.
Coordinate transfers to hospitals when necessary.
Follow infection prevention protocols & regulations.
Monitor residents for signs of infection.
Ensure a safe environment and reduce risks of falls and injuries.
Adhere to federal, state, and facility regulations.
Participate in quality improvement and resident safety programs.
Assist during inspections and audits.
Protect residents' rights and dignity.
Advocate for quality care and appropriate services.
Address resident and family concerns.
Clinical assessment and critical thinking.
Leadership and teamwork.
Familiar with EHR system
Communication and interpersonal skills.
Time management and organization.
Knowledge of geriatric and long-term care nursing.
Requirements
- Current Licensed Practical Nurse licensure in the state of Illinois
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
