The LPN GS-7 work is of considerable difficulty and responsibility is performed under general supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or provider. The LPN is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Community Living Center clinic and possesses the knowledge and skills for ongoing support, and role development of the LPN. In this restorative nursing role, you will provide specialized, hands-on care that supports Veterans' physical, emotional, and therapeutic goals. Working both independently and alongside Registered Nurses and other health professionals, you will help guide mobility, medication administration, rehabilitation techniques, and continuity of care. This position offers the opportunity to build strong clinical judgment while making a direct difference in Veterans' daily functioning and quality of life.
Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Major Duties include, but are not limited to: Performs specialized practical nursing care and adapts procedures based on patient condition. Applies restorative nursing concepts to support Veteran functioning in the Community Living Center and Medical Center. Reports and documents significant patient information accurately and consistently.
Collaborates with rehabilitation disciplines to meet Veterans' therapeutic goals. Prepares and administers medications and monitors patients for physical or emotional changes. Responds appropriately to emergency situations.
Assesses and supports continuity of care by identifying needs for supplies and equipment. Coordinates with the interdisciplinary team regarding equipment and restorative modalities. Assists with restorative techniques such as dysphagia management, fall prevention, pressure ulcer prevention, and toileting.
Notifies the Registered Nurse of incidents and completes required reports and documentation. Work

Sunday-Saturday; 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Rotating holidays and weekends required. Recruitment/Relocation Incentives (Sign-on Bonus): May be authorized for eligible, highly qualified candidates.
Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not authorized Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases. This position requires some degree of fitness, strength, and agility. Duties require extensive periods of standing and walking. Education
Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and/or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (Formerly: National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission). See "Education" section for additional requirements and exceptions.
Licensure
Full, active, current, and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or District of Columbia. Physical Standards: See VA Directive and Handbook 5019. English Language Proficiency. Licensed practical or vocational nurses appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in both spoken and written English as required by 38 U. S. C. 7402(d), and 7407(d).
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: The GS-7 grade level is for select, complex LPN/LVN positions, as established by each health care facility. To qualify for the GS-7 level, a candidate must have at least three (3) years of experience as an LPN/LVN maintaining acceptable standards within a health care setting under the direction of a registered nurse (RN) or physician (MD/DO).
This experience must include completion of at least one (1) year of experience at the GS-6 level or equivalent, fully meeting all of the performance requirements for the GS-6 LPN/LVN. In addition, candidates must demonstrate the following GS-7 level Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge and skills necessary to carry out more specialized patient care duties, including assignments in selected, more complex inpatient and/or outpatient care settings. Knowledge base promotes the incorporation of current patient care data in actively contributing to the development of the patient's overall health plan and in carrying out assigned nursing interventions.
Positions at this grade level require broader knowledge and skills because supervision is more general and employees are expected to be involved to a greater degree in the development and modification of treatment plans. Ability to assist RN and/or MD/DO to appropriately prioritize overall patient care needs and adjust plans for care delivery. Makes astute observations of subtle, less obvious changes, both physical and emotional, in patient's condition, and accurately and thoroughly documents care delivered and patient's response to care that could require immediate modification of the patient's care plan.

In addition to responsibilities at the lower grade level, the LPN/LVN is responsible for monitoring the practice of non-licensed nursing and medical staff.
Work of considerable difficulty and responsibility is performed under general supervision. Individuals in these positions are, to a considerable extent, expected to exercise independent technical judgments and to possess and apply a comprehensive working knowledge of the principles, art and science of practical nursing.
