What You'll Do: Carefully assess and monitor the physical status of the patient prior to, during, and immediately after the surgical procedure. Plan perioperative nursing interventions necessary for expected outcomes based on specific surgery, illnesses, injury or disease, behavior and O. R. standard of care. Teach the patient and family basic information about the perioperative experience. Anticipate potential problems and adapt the plan of care to the surgical procedure, and sets priorities in emergencies, changes in patient status and unusual occurrences. Create and monitor the sterile field. Anticipate the need for equipment and supplies before the case begins. Evaluate nursing interventions in relation to established expected outcomes. Reassess the patient's status identifying unresolved problems and implements revised plan of care by communicating the reassessment. American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross ACLS certification preferred.
