This position provides skilled nursing care for the incarcerated offender in various clinic settings, this is a STRAIGHT WEEKEND NIGHT SHIFT position at the South Dakota State Penitentiary. Registered nurses are responsible for documenting medical records, transcribing reports, providing patient education, administering medications, collaborating on treatment plans, employing infection control measures, providing crisis intervention, interviewing and triaging offenders, assisting physicians with medical and surgical procedures, ensuring ordering and restocking of medications and supplies, observing and reporting physical and emotional condition of offenders, performing physical and emotional assessments, promoting safety and security of the clinical environment, operating clinical equipment, and attending training programs including Basic Training Academy and Threat Pattern Recognition self-defense course.
Requirements
Current valid license as a Registered Nurse from the South Dakota Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)
TB (tuberculosis) screening upon hire

CPR certification to AHA guidelines
Written and practical self-defense exam
Physical ability to complete practical self-defense exam
